It's part of a shutter. The black thing at the bottom is some hardware attached to the house that holds it open. It needs a good scrape, sanding and paint is what it needs.
Hello, my name is Shauna. I photograph everything and everyone. I was formally educated in zoology as a wildlife biologist and ecologist but my current full-time occupation has me doing laundry, washing dishes, playing at the park, scrubbing toilets, cooking meals and packing lunches, kissing owies, helping with homework, building Lego castles, balancing the budget, mowing the lawn, planning picnics, cleaning up vomit, volunteering for the PTA, and booking the occasional vacation.

We wanted to call you last night when we saw the weather channel. Glad you're ok!!!
Your picture is eerily similar to Clams photo challenge.
I'm glad the tornadoes avoid your town. Cool picture! Sorry it had to go on the 'honey do' list.
Cool picture, can I ask what it is? I'm glad you were safe.
I'm with Margaret, it looks cool and not like it needs fixing... what is it?
I've been trying to figure out what it is too. It kinda looks like an old lock but I don't get what the part below is. I've been obsessed with it.
