317: When the electricity is out at the airport

Photobucket
The power went out at home around lunch-time yesterday and was still off all day today. I flew out to meet Mom so she could drive up here, leaving Rick home with kids and no power. Rick told me later that he had enough gas to run the generator for about 1-1/2 hours. He had to choose between running the fridge to keep the food cold or running the TV for the kids. He chose the TV. He makes me laugh.

The power was out at the airport. Only a few emergency lights were on, but the planes were still coming and going. My boarding pass was hand-written. The passengers had to walk out onto the tarmac to get on the planes. As I was waiting for my flight I laughed as these passengers were standing in the driving rain and gale-force winds trying to board their plane. It wasn't so funny when it was my turn. I'm grateful for electricity.

I remember when that was the only way to get on your plane. Not pleasant when it's raining.
