357: shepherd's dinner

Photobucket
I borrowed this tradition from my sister. While she does it on Christmas eve, we did ours tonight. We dressed up like shepherds then had a picnic on the floor by firelight. We talked about the shepherds who visited baby Jesus. We ate things that maybe the shepherds would have eaten. We watched Joy to the World and paid special attention to the shepherds part. I was amazed by all the questions and answers the kids came up with. It was fun to think about what they might have experienced. I'm grateful for a night without talk of Santa.

What was on the menu for your dinner? I am looking for new food to try next year.

I don't know how authentic it was. We had toasted chickpeas, hummus, flatbread, crackers, goat cheese, olives, nuts, figs, raisins, grape juice... I asked Rick what he ate on his Egypt trip, but he said the food they were served always had little weiners in it. ???

Is he sure they were wieners and not some kind of insect grub.
