262: It's alive!

Photobucket

Several months ago I read, or someone told me, that you can plant the top of a pineapple and it will grow into a plant. So I thought I'd give it a try. What the heck. I bought a pineapple from the grocery store. Broke off the top. Peeled and ate the fruit. Then Oliver and I stuck the top on a pot of soil and watered it. I don't know if he kept it watered, but I know I didn't water it very often. We had a very HOT, dry summer and the tips of the leaves turned brown and dried up. I thought for sure it was dead. Rick said he thought it was dead. Now it's the end of summer and, what do you know?! I think it's alive. There are new leaves coming up in the center. It probably means I'm going to have to bring it inside for the winter. Yikes. I've killed every houseplant I've ever tried to grow. I think I'll put Oliver in charge of taking care of it.

I'm thankful our pineapple plant is ALIVE!

my friend did the same thing here after planting several of them, she finally got home grown pineapples!

I want to try that!

BTW, this reminds me of the book "The Carrot Seed".

I'll have to look at "The Carrot Seed". I've never read it.
