A couple days ago I was clearing out a dresser so I could move it into Sophie's room and came across a bunch of photos in an envelope. They were from a church youth temple trip I went on when I was a teenager. You know. Photos of all the crazy shenanigans that went on when a bunch of teens were on a trip without their parents. Photos that made me think, "Ooh! That would be a good one to post on facebook." At the bottom of the stack I found this photo of the parents seeing all their kids off. This photo of my dad that I hadn't seen in at least 2 decades. This photo of my dad that I happened to find just a few days before I would celebrate his birthday with my kids. For his birthday celebration tonight we had ice cream sundaes and pine floats; watched home movies (most of which he recorded himself); talked about fishing, wagon rides, snorkeling at the beach, and the time he made pb&j sandwiches with the dog's peanut butter; and I showed my kids this photo. Aidan and I laughed a lot. Oliver tried really, really hard to remember. And Sophie asked lots of questions. I like to think he would have enjoyed this birthday celebration. I love how happy he looks in this photo and that's how I picture how he would have looked tonight.

What a timely treasure! He looks so handsome and happy!
What a fun way to keep his memory alive for your kids, so they can know him even though he's no longer here. :o) I just tried to keep my mind busy so I would think about it or dwell on the fact that he wasn't here to celebrate his special day with. Had dinner at TooJay's Deli one of his favorite places to eat, went to the movie Tron: Legacy, then pick up his favorite Cheese cake. I got the low carb version, made with Splenda. I just got one piece, too.
What a beautiful memory.
That picutre sure makes me smile!
Love the way you celebrated the day.
