254: Welcoming a new life + thoughts on 9/11

Photobucket
Ten years ago on the morning of Sept. 11th, I was doing field work in southern Utah and had no inkling as to what was happening in NYC, D.C., and PA. I was living in a tent. I was told by someone in passing that there had been a terrorist attack. I jumped into the truck and listened to the radio and I felt confused and frightened. I remember when I eventually made it home to New Mexico I tried to watch the coverage on TV, but by then Rick had already been watching the coverage for days and didn't want to see it anymore. Fast forward ten years and I was glued to the TV tonight watching video footage that was recorded that day at the World Trade Center. I had seen some footage and photos before, but nothing like this, watching as it happened, and I couldn't look away, probably because I had missed it all ten years ago. And tonight I also found myself feeling so grateful that I got to spend a couple hours today with this sweet, brand new baby. Exactly one week new. And feeling that maybe things would be alright, after all.

I will never forget watching the events as they happened. It was terrifying, and I have a hard time watching any of it now.

What a precious little baby.

I can't imagine what it must have been like for the people who lived there at the time.

That's a beautiful baby.

So precious. This reminded me of that one challenge...

I remember watching it. I don't think I can watch it again. I was really shocked at some of the things that were filmed.

New babies are so sweet!
